Choosing a name for your business can be one of the most challenging yet exciting steps in your entrepreneurial journey, and that’s precisely what it was for us! A name is so much more than just a label; it’s the first impression you create for potential customers and beautifully reflects your brand’s identity. It’s a process that requires creativity and patience. Having patience was a struggle for us as we were both excited to get this business off the ground.


The steps we took to name our business: 


1. Define Brand Identity: Considering what our business stands for, including our mission, values, and the personality we wanted to convey, helped us to create a name that aligns with our brand.

2. Brainstorming Ideas: We exchanged numerous messages while brainstorming ideas. We shared any words or phrases that came to mind related to our business. Tip: Don’t hold back because sometimes, the most unconventional ideas can lead to great names!


3. Consider our Audience: We never lost sight of who our target customers are and what would resonate with them. Tip: Picking a name that appeals to them can create a stronger connection from the start.


4. Keep It Simple and Memorable: We intentionally chose a name that is easy to spell, pronounce, and remember. Tip: Avoid jargon or overly complex words that might confuse potential customers.


5. Check for Availability: Once we had a few favorites, we checked if the domain name was available for a website. Tip: This is crucial for building your online presence and protecting your brand.


6. Think Future-Proof: We considered how your name might fare as your business grows. We wanted to avoid overly specific names that might limit our ability to expand into new products or services in the future.


7. Trust Our Instincts: Ultimately, we went with a name that feels right to us. 


8. Visualize: This was all Ashley, our creative mastermind. She considered how the name would look on our logo, website, and promotional materials. Tip: A good name should also be visually appealing. 


So, how did we land on Sage Market Collaborative? For us, “Sage” holds a special significance. Not only is sage a beautiful plant, but it also symbolizes wisdom garnered from reflection and experience. With decades of combined experience between us, we believe that Sage truly represents who we are. In essence, a sage is someone who has accumulated knowledge through years of learning and reflection.
